On March 27th at the Taliarte Marina in the Island of Gran Canaria (Canary Islands) the Stier Group unveiled in front of the media, the local authorities and the regional maritime businesses what will soon be the first offshore training centre in Spain. The President of the Cabildo (the island’s governing body), Jose Miguel Bravo de Laguna took part in the presentation act as well as the town of Telde’s Mayor, Maria del Carmen Castellano. The Head of the National Maritime College of Ireland, Conor Mowlds, the President of the Zona Especial Canaria (ZEC), Beatriz Barrera, and the host of the event and CEO of Stier Group, Ms. Ida Stier also spoke at the act.
With 3,000 sq-metres of training grounds, an investment of 3 million Euros and the capacity to instruct 3,000 people per year in offshore courses and 1,000 students in professional maritime education, the Stier Group becomes a national and international reference in offshore specialised education and training. This centre, the only one in Spain, supplements the capabilities of a Group with 20 years’ experience in maritime training, P&I Correspondents, legal services, ship agency and logistics solutions.
Among those assisting the event were the Irish Ambassador to Spain and the Irish Honorary Consul in Las Palmas. Also representatives of the Air and Naval Forces, Infantry Brigade, U.ME, National Maritime Rescue, Las Palmas City Council members as well as numerous Port of Las Palmas business leaders were present.
The press conference, speeches, and media presentation were followed by a choral ensemble that rendered various musical pieces. Food, Spanish wine and cocktails were enjoyed at such privileged setting by the Atlantic Ocean.
