The Canary Islands is consolidating an international position as a strategic spot for the Oil & Gas industry, more specifically for the oil rigs’ transit. The Canary archipelago is situated in a privileged geographic situation in front of the West Coast of Africa and benefits from a full European and Spanish legislation. It is also the gateway and a hub for Western Africa in terms of goods and services.
The offshore industry is carrying out adjustments to adapt itself to the fall of oil prices through the optimization of human resources and the reduction of budgets in search of greater efficiency and effectiveness for all the procedures but always guaranteeing safety.
For this reason, Grupo Stier is organizing on the 16th and 17th March in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria the “I O&G Meeting Day” to discuss about the main challenges that the sector is facing, such us:
- European Directive EU 2013/30 on offshore safety
- Risk prevention and Quality
- Environmental aspects
- Competence and safety
The event will count with top international executives as speakers including OPITO, Shell Nigeria, Inaer/Babcock International and environmental experts from the Government of Cyprus and Nigeria. Each one will expose, from their perspective, different points of view which are to be complemented by the general legal interpretation of the Lawyers Firm, ISLAW Madrid.
Among the attendees, we have the presence of multinationals in Africa and Europe, multinationals established in the Canaries, large Spanish oil companies, service providers of the Canary Islands and OPITO MEA Training Centres.
The “I O&G Meeting Day in the Canary Islands” is one of the actions that Grupo STIER organizes complementing the 15th TPAG Meeting that is celebrated for the first time in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain. The events count with the sponsorship of PROEXCA, SPEGC, CASA ÁFRICA, among others local public authorities and institutions, in addition to the support of OPITO, as the pioneers in the continued drive to raise awareness on a global sense on safety in the oil and gas industry.
